Please note the following Book Sale Procedures:
-
No books or other materials may be left unattended at any time, except in designated areas. Books may not be aggregated in aisles nor may they block any exit. This policy will be strictly enforced. Any books found piled up in an aisle or blocking an exit will be promptly re-shelved.
-
Shoppers are requested to evaluate items "in place"— decide whether to purchase an item at the table or shelf where it is displayed. If you reject an item, please return it to the place it was displayed.
-
For the first day of the sale, there will be designated a limited area for high volume purchasers to aggregate and evaluate potential purchases. Due to space limitations, this area will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Users are required to leave their name and mobile phone number with their materials in this area. Users are asked to return rejected books to the place they were originally displayed.
-
As a convenience for high volume purchasers — as in recent sales, we will be happy to begin to add-up (tally) books you have selected for purchase while you continue shopping. You will be required to leave your name and mobile phone number with your selections.
-
Please bring your own bags, boxes and rolling carts to carry your selections. We do not anticipate having any boxes available for your use.

Upcoming Westport Book Shop Events
Short Story Club at the Book Shop

Short on time but long on interest?
Every month the Westport Book Shop's Short Story Club
will get together to discuss another classic or
contemporary short story or pair of stories
Meets at the Westport Book Shop on
the fourth Thursday of every month
from 6:00 to 7:30pm
Come to one session, some, or all, it's up to you!
Space is limited; registration is required.
Each month's short story selection will be announced by or around the first day of the month, and registration for that month's session will open when the email announcing that month's selection goes out. Make sure you are on our email list (use the "Contact Us" form at the bottom of the page), so you'll be among the first to know!
The next session of the Short Story Club will be Thursday, November 20, 2025. To commemorate Veterans Day, this month's stories are about those who serve and their families:
"Soldier's Home" (1925) by Ernest Hemingway,
"The Things They Carried" (1990) by Tim O'Brien (this story is the first chapter in O'Brien's novel of the same name), and
"Refresh, Refresh" (2006) by Benjamin Percy
Registration for each Short Story Club session is required, as space is limited. To register, please phone the Westport Book Shop at 203-349-5141 or send an email to: RSVP@westportbooksaleventures.org
Story selections usually are available at your local library, either singly or as part of a compilation, and often are available online. The Westport Book Shop will have copies of each month's stories available to borrow. You may also be able to obtain printouts of most stories at The Westport Library, for a modest fee of $0.15 per page. This month's stories are all available online.
We look forward to another interesting discussion!

A benefit event
to help sustain our employment program and grow our community
Since opening the Westport Book Shop in early 2021, we have provided over 10,500 hours of paid part-time employment and job training for more than a dozen adults and young adults with disabilities. Our employees are learning and exercising workplace skills that are transferable to other business and retail environments, and they have the opportunity for frequent everyday interaction with the community. Over this time, we have also provided more than $200,000 of support to The Westport Library.
On March 13, 2025, we hosted a benefit we called Growing Our Community, to raise funds to ensure we continue to have a solid financial foundation, and to support the potential growth or our employment program. Guests enjoyed live music performed by members of the Staples High School Jazz Ensemble, light bites & beverages, a paddle raise, and both a live and silent auction of a variety of unique books, vinyl, artworks, and experiences.
If you missed the benefit, you can still support our efforts: click here to donate. Thank you
