The Westport Book Sale announces that tickets are now on sale for “Growing Our Community” — a benefit event to be held on Thursday evening, March 13, 2025, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Westport Library, to support the Book Sale’s dual nonprofit mission.

Since opening the Westport Book Shop in January 2021, Westport Book Sale Ventures has provided over 8,750 hours of paid part-time employment and job training for more than a dozen adults and young adults with disabilities, and has provided over $200,000 of support for The Westport Library.

“Going forward, we want to explore creating increased and varied employment opportunities for adults with disabilities, in cooperation with other organizations in the area.  If you share our passion for books and the Library, and for inclusive, supportive work environments for people with disabilities, we hope you will join us on March 13th,” said Westport Book Sale’s President, Jocelyn Barandiaran.

Benefit tickets are $95 each, and are available for purchase online at:  westportbooksalemarch2025benefit.eventbrite.com  or may be purchased at the Westport Book Shop, at 23 Jesup Road.

The benefit event will include live music, light bites, a paddle-raise, and both a live and a silent auction of unique books, artwork, vintage vinyl, and unique experiences.  Catering will be provided and generously subsidized by Seaside Sliders, LLC; wine generously donated by Brescome Barton, Inc.

A catalog of auction items — which will be updated periodically — is available on the Westport Book Sale website, at www.westportbooksaleventures.org/our-events.   Auction items include two copies of The New Yorker in Westport by Eve Potts and Andrew Bentley; author-signed books; artworks donated by local artists; tickets and tours of nearby attractions; and much more. Event participants can also bid on the opportunity to have one hour exclusive access to the next Westport Library Big Spring 2025 Book Sale (presently scheduled to begin May 16, 2025), the evening before the sale’s start, or the evening before the Big Fall 2025 Book Sale (date TBD).

The Book Sale is grateful to its very generous early event Sponsors

Karen Kleine, Dan Levinson, Robin & Brad Berggren, Eileen Lavigne Flug, Linda & Scott Hopper, Jocelyn & Walter Barandiaran, Nancy Kail, and Ann & Bill S(c)heff(l)er.

Generous donors of auction items include Miggs Burroughs; Jack Geer; The Mark Twain House & Museum; Knopf Doubleday; the Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts; Mystic Seaport Museum; and the Mystic Aquarium.

The proceeds of this event will support the Company’s employment and job training for adults with disabilities, and our used book sales that raise funds to support the exceptional programs and services of The Westport Library.
