Westport Book Shop Welcomes December Artist Markley Rizzi

December 2, 2024  The Westport Book Shop is pleased to welcome local artist Markley Rizzi as guest exhibitor for the month of December at the Book Shop’s Drew Friedman Art Place.  Markley will be exhibiting a selection of her oil paintings.

“My awareness of the earth, water and sky, and their relationship to the human spirit, allows me to paint freely, drawing on life experiences such as being a mother and my love for the water and the environment,” said Markley.  “I explore the subject of water as a metaphor for human emotions.  Water surrounds us, mirroring the fluidity of human thoughts and emotions.  I use light to capture the subjectivity of memory,” she continued.

Markley Rizzi had a successful career in graphic design, advertising and marketing. After graduating with a BFA from Ringling College of Art & Design, Markley moved to New York, where she began her career as a graphic designer. She designed logos and brand packaging for the fragrance industry, as an Art Director for Playtex International brands. She was instrumental in developing strategic brand identity, packaging, promotion, and advertising for new product launches, as well as for existing major brands.

As a VP/Creative Director for FCB Advertising agency, she was responsible for all promotion,

design development, and implementation for RJR Nabisco products. After joining Marketing

Corporation of America (MCA) as a Managing Director, she moved to Westport, where living by

the water inspired her to return to painting.

Markley Rizzi holds a Bachelors of Fine Arts from the Ringling College of Art and Design, and she has studied arts at Yale University, the School of Visual Arts and the Silvermine Arts Guild.

The Westport Book Shop will hold a reception for Markley and her exhibit on Wednesday evening, December 18, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  Space is limited; please RSVP to the Book Shop at 203-349-5141 or by email to bookshop@westportbooksaleventures.org

Markley Rizzi’s artwork will be on exhibit at the Westport Book Shop through December 31, 2024.  The exhibit is open to the public during the Book Shop's regular business hours: Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sundays from Noon to 5 p.m. All work on display is available for purchase.

Westport Book Shop, a nonprofit independent used book store, is downtown Westport's only source for gently used and antiquarian books, vintage vinyl records, and CDs and DVDs. It is located at 23 Jesup Road, right across Jesup Green from The Westport Library.

The Book Shop's Drew Friedman Art Place is an area of the store dedicated to exhibiting the work of community artists year-round, on a rotating basis. Miggs Burroughs, a Trustee of the Drew Friedman Community Arts Center, and a founding member of The Artists Collective of Westport, curates these exhibits, which change monthly.
