January 2, 2025 — The Westport Book Shop is is kicking off the New Year by welcoming local artist Jodi Rabinowitz as guest exhibitor for the month of January at the Book Shop’s Drew Friedman Art Place. Jodi will be exhibiting some of her latest collage creations.
Jodi’s artwork is often inspired by distinct themes, colors or shapes. She also creates custom collages for individual clients. Jodi crafts her collages from handmade paper sourced from around the world, representing diverse cultures and traditions. Each piece incorporates a rich mix of material: newspaper, tree bark, grass, banana leaves, cardboard, magazines, amusement park tickets, candy wrappers, and more — “No paper is off limits!” says Jodi. In addition, each piece of paper is hand-cut and intuitively placed, so not everything is straight, crisp, or perfectly aligned. Jodi notes that “life and art are full of unexpected twists, and these collages reflect the beauty of embracing that imperfection. It’s good to color outside the lines.”
Jodi Rabinowitz started out as a social worker in one of New York City’s busiest psychiatric emergency rooms, and later transitioned to corporate leadership development across a range of industries. Jodi says that both roles required understanding the person in front of her, and now she brings that same focus to creating custom artworks. Her goal, Jodi says, is to use her art to spark joy and bring happiness to the viewer.
The Westport Book Shop will hold a reception for Jodi and her exhibit on Wednesday evening, January 8, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Space is limited; please RSVP to the Book Shop at 203-349-5141 or by email to bookshop@westportbooksaleventures.org
Jodi Rabinowitz’ artwork will be on exhibit at the Westport Book Shop through January 31, 2025. The exhibit is open to the public during the Book Shop's regular business hours: Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sundays from Noon to 5 p.m. All work on display is available for purchase.
